Cooking: from simple bites to banquet delights

Whether you’re the master chef of your family or someone who prefers the simplicity of pre-made delights, filling hungry tummies this Easter is easy work with a bit of planning.

Feeding a small (but hungry) family?

Whip up a kid-friendly feast of bunny ear pancakes for breakfast, followed by hearty chicken pot pies with salad for lunch, leaving plenty of room for chocolate egg grazing across the day. Classic Easter dishes like roast lamb, scalloped potatoes, honey-glazed ham and herb-crusted fish will bring everyone together to enjoy the pleasure of good food and great company minus the fuss.

Hosting a larger-than-life family gathering?

A DIY grazing table will get you out of the kitchen and into the celebrations in a few simple steps. Gather your boards and bowls, map it out with a template, and dress your table with local, seasonal ingredients to keep the costs down. Easter falls in autumn in Australia, which calls for rich delights like juicy caramelised figs, marinated olives paired with cheese, savoury pumpkin muffins and roasted Baba Ganoush dip.

After something sweeter?

If you’re skipping lunch and heading straight for dessert, create a grazing table or snack platter laden with fresh hot cross buns, a chocolate fondue foundation, seasonal fruit, braided Easter bread and vibrantly coloured hard-boiled eggs.

Find everything you need to fill hearts and tummies at Woolworths, ALDI, Coles and Henry's Harvest before the Easter rush.

Decorating: sprinkle some Easter cheer around your home

Transform your home or office into somewhere egg-stra special this year with festive decorations. From simple visuals to show-stopping centrepieces, Macarthur Square offers a range of options to suit any style and space.

DIY decorations and table dressings

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to create some magic in your home this year. Enlist the kids to help you make Easter staples, including vibrantly coloured hard-boiled eggs, bunny buntings and a decorative Easter Egg Tree.

If sustainability is important to you, pick up a grapevine wreath from Smart Dollar to create a door hanging or table centrepiece using twigs, plant trimmings and flowers from your garden.

Made-for-you decorations

If you’re more of a grab-and-go kind of event host, hunt around for bunny ornaments, wall hangings, throws and baskets that will add to the Easter cheer each year.

Head to BIG W, Adairs and Bed, Bath N' Table for all your Easter decorating essentials.

Activities: making memories and creating traditions

Easter is a special time, but it’s especially magical for kids. So enjoy the excitement with some fun-filled activities at home or a family outing across the long weekend.

Things to do at home

From cookie baking to Easter egg hunts and themed family movie nights, the list of things you can do to create Easter memories at home is endless. Host a garden picnic, play an Easter-eve board game, make Easter baskets or decorate your Easter tree together. No matter how you spend your evening, nothing beats the thrill of finding bunny footprints in the house on Easter morning!
